Home design inspiration: Inside the Kents Bank show home
Key Takeaways
- For the Kents Bank show home, Haus Interiors have used soft colours, natural materials and comfortable furnishings to make the show home feel welcoming and easy to picture as a family home.
- Haus Interiors has layered different materials together to give the neutral colour palette more depth and personality.
- Haus Interiors has kept the overall colour palette connected but have used artwork, statement furniture and bolder shades to give each bedroom a slightly different feel.
Set right against the Cumbrian coastline, our Kents Bank development in Grange-over-Sands is all about embracing that relaxed coastal pace of life. With two, three, and four-bedroom homes built using stone accents and natural materials that fit right into the local surroundings, we wanted the interiors to feel just as welcoming.
To bring the interiors to life, we worked with creative interior design agency, Haus Interiors . We sat down with Vicky, an Interior Designer at Haus Interiors, to learn more about how the team furnished the show home, her top interior design tips and what they can teach anyone decorating a new build home.
A house that feels like home
When the designers at Haus Interiors began planning the show home, one of the main things they wanted to achieve was a feeling of warmth. "We wanted to create a home that felt warm, comfortable and considered, rather than overly styled or clinical," Vicky explains.
The team brought this to life with contemporary furniture alongside softer, more rounded shapes, natural materials and warmer metal finishes. Throughout the home, you'll also find traditional-inspired artwork, ceramics, botanical styling and a large statement clock, offering smaller details that help to give the home some personality without making it feel too busy.
Colours inspired by the Cumbrian coast
With Kents Bank so close to the coast, it would have been easy to take the seaside theme and run with it, but Vicky went for something much more subtle. Instead of filling the rooms with obvious coastal accessories, they looked to the colours found around the area, using soft blue-grey, warm taupe, cream, muted green and earthy orange throughout the home.
The result is a colour scheme that feels calm without being too plain, with the warmer shades working alongside timber and other natural materials used throughout the interiors. These colours also reflect some of the interior design trends that are currently moving towards warmer, more natural palettes, with earthy tones replacing cooler, more clinical neutrals.
Texture does the heavy lifting
With a neutral colour palette, texture becomes important, and it's one of the easiest things to add when decorating your home. In the living room, soft upholstered sofas are layered with feather-filled, knitted and woven cushions on a textured rug, whereas in the dining area, the designers have added a smooth round table that sits alongside burnt orange chairs, ceramic accessories and bronze lighting.
“We’ve also used fluted and reeded furniture, timber, marble, ceramics, glass, metal and soft textiles throughout,” says Vicky. It’s this use of different materials and finishes that keeps the neutral colours from feeling flat, while giving each room plenty of detail to look at.
Giving each bedroom its own personality
Upstairs in our Kents Bank show home, the Haus Interiors team continued the same colour palette but gave each bedroom its own personality.
In Bedroom one, a statement headboard creates a focal point and gives the room a softer, more comfortable feel. In Bedroom two, it's the horse gallery artwork that catches the eye and adds something a little different. Vicky’s favourite feature is this artwork, which she says, "adds such a strong sense of personality and character to the room."
The bold orange background also ties in with the burnt orange shades used elsewhere in the show home, showing how you can carry a colour from one room to another without having to use it in exactly the same way.
Interior design trends perfect for new build homes
There are plenty of current interior design trends to spot around our Kents Bank show home, including warm neutrals, earthy rust tones, curved furniture, fluted detailing, statement lighting, bronze and brass finishes and textured wallcoverings. But instead of choosing one trend and using it throughout the house, Vicky has brought different elements together alongside more classic pieces. This helps the rooms feel current without making them look as though they've been decorated around one season or trend.
For anyone moving into a new build, Vicky recommends paying attention to colour, texture and lighting. "New build spaces can sometimes start with quite a neutral or uniform finish," she explains, so a stronger wall colour, textured curtains, a generous rug or an interesting light fitting can quickly make a room feel more personal.
Curved furniture and natural materials can also help soften the clean lines you often find in a new build, particularly if you want to create a home that feels a little softer and more relaxed.
Interior design tips from Haus Interiors
If you're moving into a new build and wondering where to begin, these interior design tips for new homes can help you create a home that feels personal to you:
- Start by picking one area and introduce a colour you really love, then build the rest of the room around it.
- Don't be afraid of contrast. You don't have to shy away from stronger colours (like burnt orange or reds) just because you've started with a neutral new-build interior.
- Use beading and coving to add extra detail.
- Invest in pieces that make the biggest difference, like curtains, rugs and artwork.
- Don't feel like everything has to match. Choosing pieces in different shapes, finishes and materials can make a room feel much more personal.
