Why does energy efficiency matter?

Energy efficiency is important because it is the most cost-effective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower monthly utility costs. By cutting the demand for power, a sustainable home can improve energy security and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. At Lancet Homes, we integrate these principles into every home we build, and our construction process includes:

  • High-performance insulation that minimises heat loss
  • Smart technology that allows you to monitor and manage your energy use
  • Airtight construction and carefully selected materials to prioritise sustainability

Are new build homes more energy efficient than older ones?

In short, yes. Research from the Home Builders Federation (HBF) and Octopus Energy shows that buyers of new build homes save on average £420 per year on energy bills compared to those in older properties, while cutting carbon emissions by up to 74%.

Carbon emissions are also significantly lower. New build homes only produce roughly around a third of the carbon generated by traditional housing, largely due to higher construction standards and improved energy ratings. Most of our new builds are rated EPC B or above, placing them among some of the most energy-efficient homes in the UK.

Why are new build homes more energy-efficient?

At Lancet Homes, we’re committed to building with energy efficiency in mind, from design to delivery. Here's how:

Modern building regulations

Modern building regulations are far stricter than those applied to older homes. Today’s standards require:

  • Advanced insulation for walls, floors, and roofs
  • Airtight construction to prevent heat loss
  • Low-leakage heating and ventilation systems.

And from 2025 onwards, all new homes must incorporate low-carbon or renewable heating systems, further lowering emissions and future-proofing your home.

Sustainable building materials

New homes are built using materials selected for durability, performance and environmental impact. Compared to older homes, which often suffer from outdated wiring, poor insulation, and inefficient plumbing, new build homes are designed to deliver long-term energy efficiency and reduced maintenance costs.

Energy-efficient design

Every Lancet home is planned to make the most of natural light and heat, reducing your reliance on artificial lighting and constant heating. We also integrate energy-efficient appliances and smart thermostats which provide precise control, helping to prevent unnecessary waste and keep consumption under control.
